Co-op trustee elections set for October

Socorro Electric Cooperative member-owners will head to the polls in October as four board of trustee positions will be up for grabs.

The first of two planned elections takes place Saturday, Oct. 3, at Socorro’s Finley Gym.

The District 3 affair will feature incumbents Harold Baca, Juan Gonzales and Herman Romero — all of whom have declared they will seek re-election, SEC administrative assistant Eileen Latassa said.

Member-owners who call Socorro home and meet criteria spelled out in the Co-op’s bylaws are eligible to run for the position of trustee. To date, Dr. Donald Wolberg has declared his intention to run. Latassa said a few others have thrown their names in the mix; those names will be released after the Thursday, Sept. 3, deadline for declaration of candidacy.

Meanwhile, member-owners in District 5 (Magdalena and Alamo) will head to the polls on Saturday, Oct. 10, to elect a trustee.

The position is currently held by Magdalena’s Charlie Wagner, who is expected to seek re-election.

The District 5 election takes place at the St. Mary Magdalene Parish Hall.

The deadline to declare candidacy is Thursday, Sept. 10.

Last year’s board of trustee elections saw incumbents Leo C. Cordova (District 1), Paul J. Bustamante (District 2), Leroy Anaya (District 3), Manuel Marquez (District 3) and Milton Ulibarri (District 3), Dave Wade (District 4) and Jack Bruton (District 5) prevail in their re-election bids.

Trustees serve four-year terms.

A complete list of candidates will be published in a future edition of El Defensor Chieftain. Profiles of each of the hopefuls will also appear.
