Questions are to be posed in written form
Socorro Electric Cooperative officials will be doing most of the talking at this Saturday’s informational meeting to discuss both member-sponsored and board-sponsored resolutions.
SEC trustee Donald Wolberg, chairman of the informational meeting committee, said member-owners who attend the meeting will be asked to write down their questions or concerns, and then members of the board of trustees, management or the SEC attorney will respond.
When asked if member-owners would have the chance to ask followup questions, Wolberg said that needed to be worked out.
Although he wants to encourage dialogue between member owners and the people that managed the co-op, Wolberg said the meeting needed to be managed such that it didn’t turn into a debate.
“We’re trying to avoid speeches,” he said.
Saturday’s informational meeting will follow a standard agenda used at most member meetings, except no voting will take place.
Registration begins at noon, and the meeting will be called to order at 1 p.m.
Following a welcome, invocation and pledge of allegiance, the board of trustees and special guests will be introduced, as will SEC staff.
“We want people to meet the folks who run the co-op and the linemen who risk their lives everyday,” Wolberg said.
The guest speaker will be Robert “Mac” McLennan, senior vice president of external affairs and member relations for Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc, which provides the electricity the SEC distributes to its service area.
McLennan was previously executive director of environmental affairs for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. According to a Colorado New Energy Economy Web site, “McLennan is responsible for developing Tri-State’s legislative and policy strategies and guiding its partnerships and external association activities.”
McLennan’s talk will be followed by the business session, during which the resolutions will be reviewed.
