More details emerged as to how today's (March 27) informational meeting will be handled during the Socorro Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, March 25.
According to the meeting notice, the purpose of the meeting is to "inform the members of member-sponsored and board-sponsored resolutions to the By-Laws to be voted on at the Annual Members Meeting." (sic)
The annual meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 17, at Finley Gym in Socorro.
Today's informational meeting begins at 1 p.m., with registration beginning at noon.
SEC President Paul Bustamante said on Thursday, that he'd turn the meeting over to trustee Donald Wolberg for the business session, during which proposed resolutions to the bylaws will be discussed.
Wolberg, who headed the informational committee meeting and is a member of the bylaw committee, laid out the ground rules, which he said were devised to accommodate as many people as possible and maintain order.
Wolberg noted:
• At registration, members will be given a form upon which they can write a question.
• The forms will be turned into SEC Administrative Assistant Eileen Latasa, who will be stationed at a table in the gymnasium.
• The questions can only pertain to proposed resolutions.
• Only questions from SEC member owners will be addressed.
• If members sign their names, they will be allowed to verbally ask a follow-up question.
• Depending on the number of questions being asked, a time limit may be placed on the follow-up.
• Questions will be answered by Wolberg or other trustees, management personnel or the co-op's attorney.
• Members will not be allowed to distribute handouts at the meeting.
Wolberg said it would be inappropriate for anyone to distribute material that was private research or information that could not be verified. He said it was important that everyone who bothered to attend the meeting to have their questions addressed.
"We want them to be part of the process — let them know what we're doing and why," Wolberg said.
The business session comes at the end of an agenda that includes introductions of the board of trustees, SEC employees and guests, presentations by SEC staff and guest speaker Robert "Mac" McLennan, senior vice-president for external affairs and member relations for Tri-State Generation and Transmission Inc.
