Dance team tryouts set

Charisma Blues Dance Team will hold tryouts for the 2010-2011 season on Sunday through Tuesday, May 11-13, at Parkview Elementary Gym.

Magdalena blood drive

Residents of Magdalena and the surrounding area will have an opportunity to save lives by giving blood at the Magdalena School and Community blood drive on Monday, May 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Fine Arts Room at Magdalena Schools.
All donors will receive a special T-shirt. Donors will also have the opportunity to earn Hero Rewards points to redeem for donor gifts at the United Blood Services Hero Rewards store. All donors also receive a free cholesterol test.
There is a special need for blood type “O” donors.
Blood donors must be 17 years old and present a photo ID. Donors who are 16 years old will need written parental consent.

Absentee voting begins

Absentee voting begins for the primary election on Tuesday, May 4. The last day to register to vote in the primary election is also May 4, at the Socorro County Clerk’s Office at the courthouse.

Socorro County cleans up tires

Any Socorro County resident who would like to remove tires from their property can dispose of them for free during amnesty periods at county transfer stations. The transfer stations will accept passenger tires and all sizes up to semi-truck tires. This effort is part of the Recycling and Illegal Dumping grant award to the Socorro County by the New Mexico Environment Department.
Currently residents in northern Socorro County can take tires to the La Joya transfer station.
The Village of Magdalena will host an amnesty month in June. and the county will move tire recycling equipment to the transfer station and village residents can dispose of tires for free through the month of June. The county hopes to move to the equipment to the Polvadera transfer station during the month of July.
