Wagner doesn’t speak for me
Editor:
I have never in my 63 years of life been so appalled by the way Charlie Wagner and his so-called reform group have come to try and destroy our Socorro Electric Co-op.
Our Co-op has never had any trouble with the board or with the way it has done business for the past 40 years, and now the board is struggling with issues that have never been a problem before — and that has me down right angry.
Wagner has done more harm than any other board member past, and I do not agree with him at all — period!! Wagner and his so-called reform group believe they can run our co-op better than the board of directors, who have been elected in the first place to run the co-op.
I have been a member more than 40 years, and I feel that our board should be allowed to do its job without any outside influence. We as members of the Socorro Electric Co-op may have the right to see what our dollars are doing for the Co-op, but we as members do not have the right to disrupt board meetings or to try to run our co-op for our benefit. That is why we elected trustees to do that for us.
It is a shame that less than 10 percent of the majority want to enact these changes, when I don’t feel that they are necessary.
Wagner and (Charlene) West seem to think they know what is right and they can correct the problem. These articles in this paper make it seem like they speak for me.
Well, I can tell you for a fact that they do not. And Wagner will never act on my behalf at any time.
I am also ashamed of this paper for only giving Mr. Wagner’s point of view. This paper should actually investigate the whole situation entirely and write the truth from both points of view and not just let it be a one-sided affair.
I believe Wagner should resign his position and go back to where he came from, because I, for one, am tired of his attitude and disrespect for the community and citizens of Socorro County. And it is time that we all should wake up and correct the mistakes that have come forward, before Socorro Electric Co-op becomes another casualty of the economic crisis.

Let’s tell them where we are
Editor:
Wherefore art thou, Beatrice?
On Sunday evening, July 4, the call came in from a Socorro County Deputy looking for a resident on Beatrice near Escobar in Rio Grande Estates. Could I help?
A month ago, at the June 8 meeting of the Board of County Commission under New Business, item No. 8, the vacation of roads in Rio Grande Estates was introduced. The county manager (Delilah Walsh) together with the county attorney (Adren Nance) announced to all in attendance that “these roads do not exist.” Many residents, taxpayers in northern Socorro County have been requesting street signs so emergency vehicles can determine Adam from Eve. Delilah Walsh, as county manager is tired of handling these complaints and her easiest way out is to state to the world: “these roads do not exist.”
I am thankful to Commissioner (Daniel) Monette for offering me the opportunity to address the board. Simply put, “if you vacate them, you will be inviting a lawsuit.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else files suit first. When the county requested my assistance six years ago in determining the legal descriptions of the parcels with the illegal tire dumps, it was the existence of these roads, as shown on plats, and the existence of the original surveyed metal pipes at the ends of these roads that allowed me to file my report — a report that sat on the back burner of the county for six years before they decided to act.
I have but one vote for a county commissioner, and he didn’t show up at the June 8 meeting. I don’t have a vote on the hiring of a county manager. It is past due time, however, that Delilah Walsh got to work, and placed the road signs in Rio Grande Estates.
One of these days, when the signs are still not present, an emergency will happen and someone will die due to the failure of a timely response to an address the respondents can’t find. Is the county manager and the board ready for the suit that will follow?
