State Police checkpoints
New Mexico State Police will conduct sobriety check points and saturation patrols throughout Socorro County during the month of July.
Right to Life photo contest
A photo contest depicting the theme “Life is precious in Socorro County,” is open for youths age 12 and under and a youth/adult category age 13 and up.
Photos may include families, adults, children, babies and animals showing activities that best exemplify life. The deadline for submission is Friday, August 20.
The best photos chosen by a photo committee will be displayed at the Socorro County Right to Life booth in Kelly Hall during the Socorro County Fair and Rodeo.
The public will vote on their favorite photos posted at the booth. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. Send photos and an entry form that includes your name, address, phone number, age, signature and title of photo to:

Public Library fun for kids
First through sixth grade students can spend time at the Socorro Public Library making crafts and hearing stories on Thursday, July 22, at 3 p.m.

Chicken nuggets under recall
Perdue Farms Inc. of Perry, Ga., is recalling approximately 91,872 pounds of frozen chicken nugget products that may contain foreign materials
The products subject to recall include the 1 pound, 13 ounce bags of Great Value Fully Cooked Chicken Nuggets with a use by date of June 9, 2011.
Consumer complaints revealed the chicken nuggets, distributed to Walmart stores nationwide, were found to contain small pieces of blue plastic.
There are no reports of injuries. Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase.
