100 years young
Ramona Gonzales turned 100 years old on Friday, Oct. 15.
Born in 1910 in Luis Lopez, Gonzales is the mother of five – three sons, Ceriaco, Ralph and Edwin, and two daughters, Josie and Amy. Gonzales has seen many changes over her lifetime, including the testing of the atomic bomb at Trinity Site in 1945. “I saw it,” Gonzales remembers. Their home was about 35 miles from the test site. And today, Gonzales still creates beautiful potholders for her family. “I still do a lot of knitting and crocheting,” Gonzales said smiling. On Saturday, Gonzales will celebrate her birthday in style with her family at El Sombrero’s Restaurant. She has 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
