Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Nita Fay Holliday, daughter of William B. Holliday of Quemado, received a Letter of Commendation as Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Treasurer while assigned to Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic.
Holliday created a tracking system for command funds resulting in an accurate accountability for all money collected. In addition, Holliday led and inspired a diverse team of sailors and civilian personnel in the coordination and execution of 43 fundraisers, raising more than $9,800 for the Command’s annual holiday party. Holliday is a 1997 graduate of Quemado High and joined the Navy in June 1997. She is a 2009 graduate of ITT Tech Norfolk, Norfolk, Va., with a BA degree.
Marine Corps Pfc. Sean G. Ernst is a member of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit beginning a deployment to the Pacific region that will include a major exercise in Australia. The exercise, called Talisman Sabre 2011, will allow Marines and sailors to work with partner military units from Australia to sharpen combat skills and exchange ideas and tactics.
The Okinawa-based Marine expeditionary unit is made up of more than 2,000 Marines and sailors conducting amphibious operations, as well as crisis response and contingency operations throughout the Pacific region.
Their most recent efforts were in support of Operation Tomodachi, where they provided humanitarian aid and disaster relief following the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in northeastern Japan.
Ernst is a rifleman assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. He is the son of Bill Ernst of Socorro, and is a 2010 graduate of Socorro High School.
