SHS senior transcript glitch

The Socorro School District sent a letter to all parents of senior students dated May 3 informing them that due to a “miscalculation” by the JMAC software that it used to report grades, students who have requested transcripts prior to May 3, 2012, for any reason, such as college applications or scholarships, may need to re-submit a new transcript.

The district purchased the software, JMAC, as a response to the requirement of the New Mexico Public Education Department to standardize grading.

The problem with this specific software was any plus or minus letter grade was not recognized or entered into the system.

For example, the only grade values recognized were “A” “B” “C,” “D,” etc.

The letter indicates that due to this error, students’ grade point averages may not have been accurate.

The new transcripts issued by the district, “are now current and accurate,” according to Interim Superintendent Vanneta Perry.

According to the letter, “To ensure the accurate GPA is reflected on the transcripts, make sure that all transcripts have a print date of May 3, 2012.”

“We’ve made sure we’ve done everything to make things right,” said Perry.
