EARL – Fara (Sullivan) Earl, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2012. She was born in Velma, OK on July 10, 1916 to Parker L. and Rosa Ann (Jones) Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John B. Earl in 1995; her brother, P. L. Sullivan and his wife, Mabel; her sisters-in-law, Dixie Sullivan, Maybelle Jones and Margie Collins. Fara is survived by a step daughter, Linda Earl Clarke; her dear sister in law, Elinor Tripp; many nephews and nieces and their families; a few cousins;  and many good friends.  Fara was educated in various schools in Oklahoma and she graduated from high school in Shawnee, OK. She graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, TX in 1937.  In her work as a RN, her experience ranged from a hospital of 16 beds in Weatherford, TX to 720 beds in Honolulu, mostly in the operating room and administration. She went with the Red Cross in the first contingent of nurses into Hawaii after Pearl Harbor and remained there till after the war.  She was working at St. Luke’s in Denver, CO in July 1949 when an opportunity came to go to Los Alamos, NM.  She met John Earl there who had been there since 1941 and were married in May 1950.  They moved to Kansas City, MO in 1951 where John continued working for the Atomic Energy Commission and Fara worked in the operating room at Kansas City General Hospital.  They left Kansas City in 1955 to open their own business, Valley Wholesale Co., in Colorado’s San Luis Valley.  They sold their business and moved to Socorro, NM in October 1973.  After the cold years in Alamosa, Socorro’s weather was a pure delight—matched only by the warm friendliness of the people.  They owned and operated Socorro Office Supply for 13 years, selling to Blake & Sonja Gerard in 1987.  John and Fara both always said that the best move they ever made (married or single) was when they came to Socorro, truly the “Land of Enchantment”.  Fara was a life long member of Beta Sigma Phi and loved fishing.  She loved to read and loved reading and writing poetry.  A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm at the Daniels Family Funeral Services – Socorro Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Socorro, 304 McCutcheon Ave. W Socorro, NM 87801.
