Bosque fire danger high
The bosque fire danger is high as we approach the Fourth of July holiday.
Fire restrictions are in place and will be enforced throughout the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District.
- No fires are allowed anywhere in the bosque, not even in grills.
- Smoking is allowed only in enclosed vehicles or buildings. The use of fireworks or explosive devices of any kind is prohibited.
- No cutting tools or gas torches are allowed in the bosque, at any time.
- Recreational activities should remain on established roads and paths.
Violators will be prosecuted and could be subject to fines.
In order to try and avoid a full closure of the bosque, like in 2011, MRGCD Chief Engineer and CEO Subhas Shah is urging the public to respect the bosque and adhere to the rules.
“We are taking appropriate and necessary measure to manage the bosque within Sandoval, Bernalillo, Valencia and Socorro counties to avoid catastrophic fires,” says Shah. “The bosque is a beautiful resource that we treasure, and we hope that residents will do all in their power to protect and preserve it, by abiding these fire restrictions.”
Reminder: visitors are only allowed in the bosque during daylight hours.
