Socorro shelter for needy overwhelmed
Puerto Seguro-Safe Harbor, the Socorro area’s primary facility for the needy and homeless has been swamped this summer by individuals and, most distressing, families that are unable to pay electric bills, put food on the table or keep up on other basic family needs. Further, the shelter has experienced a startling increase in visits from those who need the basics of a shower, clean clothes and a warm meal.
Safe Harbor director Duane Baker said, “The Socorro community has been very supportive. However, the economics of today are giving our needy a real hit. When they are hit, we are hit. Unfortunately, everything we do at PSI-Safe Harbor involves money, and we are just about out of money. I am confident that when our caring citizens realize that we are nearly at the point of cutting off, or at least greatly reducing may of our services that, once again, they will come through.”
I you agree this important service needs to be sustained, please send your contributions to Puerto Seguro (or Safe Harbor) P.O. Box 1433, Socorro, or on the web through a secure Pay Pal account at www.psisafeharbor.org.
