Sept. 11 ceremony pays tribute to fallen firefighters
Eleven years after thousands of Americans perished in the World Trade Center disaster of 2001, the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy will pay tribute to firefighters who gave their lives to protect their communities from the ravages of fire.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, NMFTA staff will host the Fallen Firefighter/911 Ceremony at its Socorro campus at 600 Aspen Road. The event, which is open to the general public, commences at 8 a.m. sharp. State Fire Marshal John Standefer will preside over the ceremony and will be joined by a host of local and area dignitaries.
The Fallen Firefighter/911 Ceremony is a featured event of the 2012 N.M. Fire and EMS Expo, which is the combination of the State Fire Marshal’s 57th Annual Fire School and the New Mexico EMT Association’s Annual Conference.
Walking tours of the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy will be available throughout the week long expo.
