CHAVEZ – Estevan Chavez, 56, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. He was born in Socorro on March 12, 1956, to Leonardo and Antonia (Jaramillo) Chavez. He was a lifelong resident of Socorro and worked for the County of Socorro for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his grandson George Gonzales Jr., his brother Hector Chavez and his parents. Estevan is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jeanette (Silva) Chavez; his daughters, Antonia Gonzales and husband, George, Kathy Chavez and husband, Luciano Griego, and Edith Chavez; his sons, Steven Chavez Jr.; and Hector Chavez; his brothers, Tomas Chavez and wife, Mary; Placido Chavez and wife, Lorraine; his sisters: Dolores Baldonado and husband, Emiliano; Marylou Giron; Patricia Chavez; and Eloisa Chavez; his grandson, Serjio Galaviz; and his granddaughter, Marie Gonzales. A visitation will take place Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services – Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield St., Socorro. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro followed by a Mass of Resurrection that will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Flavio Santillanes as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Steven Chavez Jr., Hector Chavez, Tomas Chavez, Placido Chavez, Serjio Galaviz, Larry Silva, Pascual Giron and David Chavez. LEYVA – Refugio Miramontes Leyva, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his home in Socorro. He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on July 4, 1934, to Jose and Maria (Miramontes) Leyva. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. Refugio was a resident of the Socorro area for about forty years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Refugio was a hardworking farmer and had worked on the Gutierrez farms in Lemitar for over twenty years. He loved going back to Mexico to visit family and he enjoyed going to casinos. He was a devoted catholic and always walked to Polvadera on Good Friday. Refugio is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Natalia (Rodriguez) Leyva; his devoted children, Jose Leyva and wife, Yvonne; Patricia Leyva; Francisco Leyva; Nolberto Leyva and wife, Blanca; Lourdes Leyva and husband, Jesus; Maria Leyva Alvarado and husband, Lorenzo; and Isidro Leyva; 10 grandchildren; his brothers, Octabiano Leyva; Mario Leyva; and Silvestre Leyva; and many other loving family members and friends. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Resurrection that will be celebrated at 9 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the Lemitar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jose Leyva, Nolberto Leyva, Isidro Leyva, Lorenzo Alvarado, and Jesus Martinez. SCOTT-TELLES – Sharon Lavonne Scott-Telles, 65, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. She was born in Lamesa, Texas, on Sept. 12, 1947, to J.C. and Nell (Hall) Scott. Sharon grew up in Hobbs, and graduated from Hobbs High School. She moved to Socorro,  in 1971. Sharon worked at the New Mexico Tech Library for 25 years and also attended classes there. She enjoyed camping and working in her flower garden and she loved fishing with her family at Elephant Butte. She was preceded in death by her beloved father. Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of 11years, Tony Telles; her loving children, Scott Wooldridge and wife, Liz; and Christi Buhrle and husband, John; her sister, Donna Mascarenas and husband, Eddie; her loving mother, Nell Scott; and her adored grandchildren, Rebecca, Michelle, Anthony, Nicholas, Jacquelyn and Dana.
