Senior resource fair brings info to seniors
The Socorro Senior Resource Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, at the Bodega Burger Lounge. At the fair, seniors and families will learn more about resources available for them, said Good Samaritan administrator Ryan Mertz.
Vendors from all over New Mexico will provide information on hospitals, housing, therapy information, senior care services, senior companions and funeral services available in the Socorro community and throughout the state, he said.
Last year, the fair took place at the Good Samaritan, but there wasn't enough space for people who attended, Mertz said. This year, they are having the fair at the Bodega Burger Lounge because they have a banquet room and the restaurant will also cater food for the event. Everything is free. There will be over 20 vendors at the fair this year, and Mertz hopes there will be 100 to 150 people who can attend.
"It's so people can learn about the services in Socorro that are offered to seniors," Mertz said. "My goal is to educate people; the senior services are large. Families need to learn about private care, home care and long-term care. There are many services for people to learn about. People don't know they have benefits to have a better life."
