Suspects arrested in Bernardo burned body case
Socorro County – Two suspects wanted in connection with the burned vehicle and body found near Bernardo were arrested Tuesday.
According to a news release issued Wednesday by the New Mexico State Police, the Gallegos brothers were arrested by U.S. Marshals just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Imperial Inn Motel, 701 Central Ave. NE in Albuquerque.
The brothers — Joe Lawrence Gallegos, 43, and Andrew “Smiley” Gallegos, 36, of Los Lunas — were turned over to New Mexico State Police and are in custody. They are currently incarcerated at the Bernalillo County Detention Center.
The siblings are considered suspects in the murder of Adrian Burns, 28, of Los Lunas. Burns’ body was found Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. when the Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department responded to U.S. 60 and state Highway 304 in reference to a vehicle fire. Volunteer firefighters found the body while extinguishing the fire.
Firefighters called the Socorro County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s department responded to the scene, then called New Mexico State Police to conduct the investigation. The New Mexico State Police Criminal Investigations Bureau investigated.
Arrest warrants have been served on both of the Gallegos brothers on the following charges for each:
• Open count of murder, first-degree felony.
• Kidnapping, first-degree felony.
• Tampering with evidence, third-degree felony.
• Conspiracy to commit a felony, second-degree felony.
• Arson, third-degree felony.
