BLM plans pile burning near Pie Town
The Bureau of Land Management Socorro Field Office will begin burning about 300 acres in and around the vicinity of Pie Town on Dec. 15, weather permitting. Fire crews plan to ignite piles through the end of March 2013 or until the project is completed. The project's goals are to reduce fuels and enhance wildlife forage and browse.
Some smoke may be visible in the burn area for up to a week after ignition operations are completed. Firefighters will monitor the burn. Smoke from this project may result in brief periods of reduced visibility near Highway 60. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through the area.
Questions about the burn should be directed to BLM's Socorro Field Office at 835-0412.
