Rewilding talk focus of Sevilleta friends meeting
The Jan. 27 annual meeting of the Amigos de la Sevilleta, the Friends Group for the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, will feature a talk by noted conservationist Dave Foreman.
Audubon Magazine named Foreman one of 100 Champions of Conservation of the 20th Century, a list that includes John Muir and Rachel Carson. He will speak on “Rewilding the Spine of the Continent,” that is, restoring big wilderness, including the large predators.
Foreman co-founded Earth First! and the The Wildlands Project, and is founding director of The Rewilding Institute. His books include “Confessions of an Eco-Warrior” and “Man Swarm and the Killing of Wildlife,” which deals with human overpopulation.
The annual meeting is a chance to learn about the Amigos’ accomplishments over the last year, see the newly installed exhibits and gift shop and participate in a drawing for original artwork by awardâ€winning wildlife artist Elizabeth Montgomery. Refreshments will be served and live music provided by Roon, Socorro’s original folk rock band.
