VIGIL – Virgil Vigil, 76, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at his home in Socorro. He was born in Holman, on June 29, 1936, to Flavio P. and Charlotte (Gallegos) Vigil. Virgil was a resident of Socorro for over 10 years. He was best known as Socorro’s KMXQ radio station manager and owner-operator, and publisher of the popular Socorro Shopper. Virgil was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed golfing and watching boxing. In his younger years, he himself was quite an athlete. He played basketball, baseball and also had a passion for boxing. Virgil actually went semi-professional and was a coach for many years. Virgil also enjoyed team roping. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Stella, in 2009; and his son Alvin R.Vigil. Virgil is survived by his devoted sons Anthony Vigil and wife, Mary, and Norman Vigil, both of San Antonio, Texas; nine loving grandchildren; and his brothers Frank, Benjamin and Charlie Vigil.
