Building grows at area hospital
Socorro General Hospital has a new medical office building to be completed in the fall of 2013.
Dr. Darla Bejnar said the building has been under construction since last fall and takes a year to complete. The new building will hold all the medical practices from three separate buildings and will be combined into one. It was a two- to three-year process for the construction of the new building because they began with planning in 2011.
Socorro General Hospital public relations manager Brad Treptow said the building will cost $6 million and the Presbyterian Healthcare Services will fully fund the project’s construction, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
The new building will have a Tricore lab, which is used for patients to have their blood drawn; 39 exam rooms and sky lights for energy efficiency, Bejnar said.
The building will also expand access to health care services and 13 medical providers, she said. With the new building they are looking to employ and recruit more people. There will also be two waiting rooms, one for the sick patients and one for the well patients, Triptow said.
