Wine tasting event raises scholarship money
The Socorro Rotary Club will host their seventh annual Bill Weiss Wine Tasting party from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Bodega Burger. There will be a wide variety of excellent wines from the Bodega Burger wine list, many fabulous appetizers to sample, and lots of door prizes.
All proceeds will go to fund a two-year college scholarship for a deserving Socorro High School Senior. Everyone will sample wine and food to the strains of Pete Gonzales' guitar. Lots of door prizes will be given away and there will also be a silent wine auction. Contact Penny Lommen at 838-0091 if you'd like to contribute to the silent auction.
Rotary awards an annual scholarship to a high school graduate who might not be a candidate for other scholarships, but is a good, well-rounded citizen who has demonstrated a concern for the betterment of the community. Candidates for the Rotary Scholarship are recommended by the high school counseling office, and are selected through an interview process. This scholarship is $2,000, which covers two scholastic years.
Tickets are $25, and can be purchased from Rotary members or at the door.
