Bosque benefit brunch Saturday
The Save Our Bosque Task Force is having its fourth annual Bosque Benefit Brunch on Saturday at the Socorro Plaza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast burritos, fresh fruit salad, juices and coffee will be available for purchase. Local musicians will provide entertainment starting with Doug Figgs at 10 a.m., Stasia Kerkmans at 11 a.m., and Roon members Johnny Dean and Jim Ruff at noon. A silent auction will feature fine art, jewelry and local crafts.
All proceeds from the auction and food sales will fund the task force’s efforts to support the Socorro riverine community — humans, flora and fauna.
Since its inception in 1993, the task force has established several riverine parks, restored over 700 acres of private lands to native riparian habitats, and sponsored several educational and restoration events.
The Bosque Benefit Brunch will help fund several important SOBTF efforts:
- Bosque Conservation Day: Each fall, SOBTF transports about 150 local fourth- and fifth-graders to the Socorro Nature Area in Lemitar to learn about wildlife and the bosque.
- Supplies such as trash bags for the biannual Bosque Clean Up Days where cooperating institutions and volunteers clean up illegal dumping sites in the bosque.
- Website maintenance.
- Matching funds for grants from federal, state and nonprofit institutions to preserve and protect riverine ecosystems.
