GUTIERREZ – Maria A. Gutierrez, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving famiy at her home in Datil. She was born in Pie Town on Nov. 11, 1924 to Antonino and Esther (Chavez) Armijo. Maria lived all of her life and raised her ten children in Catron County. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and raising her chickens. She love to garden. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ambrocio Gutierrez in 1995; her sons, Mauricio and Jose Gutierrez; her bothers, Antonino, Leo and Pete Armijo; her sister, Ruth Aragon; her grandson, Manuelito Gutierrez; and brother-in-law, Daniel Jaramillo. Maria is survived by her devoted children, Victor Gutierrez and wife, Jenny; Manuel Gutierrez and wife, Barbara; George Gutierrez and wife, Lillian; Stella Gutierrez; Herman Gutierrez and wife, Esther; Damacio Gutierrez; Tina Tafoya and husband, Leo; Marcial Gutierrez; and Denise Gutierrez; her brothers, Laddis Armijo and wife, Minnie and Gilbert Armijo and wife, Sharon; her sisters, Vestina Jaramillo, Nellie Aragon and husband, Leandro, and Frances Chavez and husband, Juan; daughter-in-law, Lupe Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Nellie Carrejo; twenty-six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Saturday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Datil, followed by the Mass of Resurrection which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Father Pat Wedeking as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the Datil cemetery. Pallbearers will be Victor Gutierrez, Manuel Gutierrez, George Gutierrez, Herman Gutierrez, Damacio Gutierrez and Marcial Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers are Adela Gutierrez and all of Maria’s many friends. BROADDUS – Frank Broaddus was born Dec. 29, 1954, in Winchester, Va., and died March 30, 2013, in Magdalena. Frank was an outdoors guy who loved adventure, good stories, fishing, hunting, photographing wildlife, hunting antlers, helping brand calves, and just tromping through the woods. He was raised in NC, and spent 13 years on St. Thomas, VI, maintaining TV cable and learning carpentry in the aftermath of Hurricanes. Frank moved to Magdalena, NM in the early 1990’s. His carpentry skills were refined working with Vaughn Allen and then he began working at the VLA on summer paint crew. He moved up to the Cryogenics team where he enjoyed his work and the challenge of the compressors and climbing the dishes. Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Jean, his Pop-Pop, Luther Broaddus, Jr, and his dad, Luther Broaddus III. He is survived by his wife, Rita; his brothers, Harry Lee and wife Carol, of VA; Parker and wife Charis of NC; Daniel and wife Teresa of VA; sisters, Lucia Hartwell and husband George of Socorro; Laura Roman of West VA; Linda of MD; Jerri Rush and husband David of Melrose NM; Martha Woodward and husband Bill of Tyrone NM; and his step-mom, Toni, of Magdalena, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and 4 great-nephews. Memorial services will be held at the Broaddus Ranch home on NM 107 at 2:00pm, Saturday, May 4th.
