Alamo rollover leaves two dead
The FBI is investigating a one-vehicle rollover accident by Alamo that left two people dead last week.
Magdalena Marshal Larry Cearly reported the accident happened about 4:30 a.m. May 9. Two people were killed and two others were transported to hospitals, one to Socorro General Hospital and the other to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
Cearly said at the scene, the Alamo ambulance ran into PHI Air Medical’s helicopter and damaged the rotor. He noted the Alamo emergency responders knew the people in the vehicle.
Cearly said he directed traffic around the accident scene and helped interview passengers, but the Bureau of Indian Affairs was initially handling the accident investigation. New Mexico State Police also responded to the scene.
Socorro County Sheriff’s Department deputies also responded, Undersheriff Les Torres said. He said at least two other passengers left the scene of the accident, and authorities speculate there may have been as many as eight people in the truck when the accident happened. He added it wasn’t clear which person was driving the truck.
Torres said the investigation has been turned over to the FBI due to the apparently suspicious circumstances, but had no further information.
