Over 50 golfers from the Northeastern Senior Golf Association out of Albuquerque enjoyed a pleasant day of golfing at New Mexico Tech on Tuesday, wrapping up with a steak lunch and lots of chatter.

Susann Mikkelson/El Defensor Chieftain: Linda Martinez drives for Par on the 18th hole at the New Mexico Tech Golf Course on May 28, during the Northeastern Senior Golf Association’s tournament.

“We had 50 members and one guest for this tournament,” announced Dennis Martinez, president of the NESGA.

Martinez’ wife, Linda, was one of only four women participating in the ladies’ division of the tournament, and took first place in her division.

Divisional winners included Gus P. Martinez in Flight A group (handicaps 12-21), Leo Candelaria in the Flight B group (22-26), Tom Segrest in Flight C (27-32), Art Cordova for Flight D (33-41), and Linda Martinez for the Ladies Flight (30-44).

“It’s a beautiful day, and a nice course. It’s a good day,” said Mike Padilla of Albuquerque. “I don’t participate in these tournaments as much as some others, because my wife and I travel. But, I enjoy them when I’m in town.”

Members of the NESGA travel around the region for golf tournaments throughout the year.
