MAGEDOV – Dr. Igor V. Magedov, 49, passed away peacefully Friday, June 14, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born in Moscow on May 4, 1964, to Vladimir Magedov and Alevtina Mishina. Igor was a devoted husband and father. His greatest passion was chemistry as he was a synthetic organic chemist, inventor and professor at New Mexico Tech. He loved his study and profession. Igor also occasionally enjoyed playing pool. Dr. Magedov led a very meaningful, productive and brave life, touching many others. Igor is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Dr. Liliya Frolova, of Socorro; his parents Vladimir Magedov and Alevtina Mishina, of Russia; and his devoted children Ekaterina Magedova and Sergey Magedov. Dr. Magedov will also be greatly missed by his fellow colleagues, students and many close friends around the world. SCOTT – Rubye Mae Scott, 93, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013. She was born in De Queen, Ark., on Aug. 12, 1919, to Willie Pirl and Emma (Edwards) Fisher. Rubye was born in Arkansas but lived all of her life in New Mexico. She met Carl Scott and they were married in Tatum on Dec. 31, 1937. Rubye worked for several years with the Furr’s Grocery Stores and Carl worked in construction. They were members of the Heights Baptist Church in Albuquerque, where they both taught a Sunday school class for 4-year-olds. They had an opportunity to buy the Napa store in Socorro with their son Lloyd in 1970 and Socorro has been their home ever since. Rubye was a wonderful seamstress and even made a lot of their children’s clothes when they were young. Rubye was a member of the Socorro Baptist Church and belonged to the Baptist Women’s Sewing Circle. She also volunteered at the local food bank. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bill and Harold Fisher, and sisters Mrytle Warren and Hope Fisher. Rubye is survived by her devoted husband of 75 years, Carl; her loving sons David L. Scott and wife, Deborah, and Lloyd C. Scott and wife, Annette; brothers Tom Fisher and wife, Pat, and Henry Fisher and wife, Dee; sister Jimmie Lois Southern and her husband, Reese; granddaughters Deborah Scott and Lori Romero and husband, Frank; grandson Bryan Scott; great-granddaughter Erin Romero; and grandson Randall Romero. Services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 Spring St., Socorro. Interment will follow at the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Deborah Scott, Lori Romero, Bryan Scott, Erin Romero, Randall Romero and Frank Romero. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Rubye’s honor to the Good Samaritan Society, P.O. Box 1279, Socorro, NM 87801.
