Youth and adult Chile Harvest Triathlon welcomes entries

........................................................................................................................................................................................

The fourth annual Chile Youth Harvest Triathlon will be held on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. at the New Mexico Tech pool and field. Children ages 7 to 15 from Catron, Socorro and Sierra counties and throughout Central New Mexico are encouraged to register. The Adult Chile Harvest Triathlon will take place Aug. 3 at 7 a.m. at the city of Socorro pool.

The goal of the youth triathlon is to provide a safe and short-distance triathlon event for children in central New Mexico. Organizers present a short clinic prior to the event for the children and their parents to cover safety and rules requirements as well as protocol.

The 2012 event had 65 children from Socorro and many parts of New Mexico participating, and it was the first triathlon for about 55 percent of participants.

The fee is $5 plus a $10 insurance fee if registering by Aug. 1. If families need help with these fees call Lynette Napier at 505-363-3361 or 575-835-2970. The Socorro Striders and Riders offer some discounts upon request.

This is a timed youth triathlon and each child will receive a triathlon shirt, a water bottle and free snacks and water/drinks. Free pizza is served after the event. Medals will be given for first, second and third places for each age group. Each child who finishes, will be given a special triathlon medal.
