Toy train show celebrates 10th anniversary
The Socorro Train Gang Railroad Club, the New Mexico Division of the Toy Train Operating Society and the city of Socorro sponsor the 10th annual Toy Train Show this Saturday.
The show will be held at the Best Western Convention Center on California Street. The convention center is located behind McDonald’s. The show opens at 9 a.m. and is done by 4 p.m. Admission to the show is $1 per person and $2 per family.
The show features several operating layouts and door prizes. This year there will be a record number of vendors.
Door prizes will be given away at 3 p.m. Some test tracks will also be available for those who would like to test rolling stock before purchasing.
“Toy trains are no longer just toys,” said organizer Jon Spargo. “Modern electronics has made them incredibly realistic with sounds that, if you close your eyes, mimic the real thing.”
Spargo said there will be something for everybody at the show.
“Watch operating trains and let the kids dream about owning toy trains just like you did when you were a kid,” he said.
