Fly-in holds career day
The M Mountain Fly-in will be Sept. 28 and features a variety of aviation and transportation-related family activities in a relaxed, friendly setting.
A variety of aircraft will be on display, including home-built planes, experimental planes, warbirds, vintage classics, radio-controlled models and many others from around the Southwest.
There will be demonstrations and exhibits for all ages, from a mini-trainer for children to parachutists and information about airplanes, becoming a pilot and aviation careers.
This year organizers have planned an aviation career day on Sept. 27 to bring students from Socorro, Magdalena and Alamo Navajo to the field to visit with pilots and explore aviation careers, said event co-chair Linda Haines.
“Our goal is to educate area youth on aviation related careers — expanding horizons,” Haines said. “A lot of people assume an aviation career means being a flight attendant or pilot, but there are a lot more options.”
Haines said parents are encouraged to attend with their children if they would like to.
Career day features both a student essay contest and a student art contest. Essay contest winners will be published in aviation related publications. Art contest winners will have their work framed and displayed at the Socorro Municipal Airport.
