The Lady Eagles and Lady Steers junior varsity teams met in a match last Saturday in Quemado. The Lady Steers won the match 3-2, with every game a nail-biting close match.

Susann Mikkelson/El Defensor Chieftain: Quemado Lady Eagle Clavita Martinez (12) goes head to head with Magdalena Lady Steer Kendra Pino (14) in last Saturday’s match in Quemado. The Lady Steers won in five closely-matched games.

The Lady Eagles have improved their game since meeting the Lady Steers at the Magdalena Invitational on Sept. 6 and 7.

Both teams put their hearts into the match and showed lots of hustle. The Lady Eagles show some real talent, but need work on their communication. This is a young team, well-matched age and experience-wise to the Lady Steers junior varsity team.

The Lady Steers JV is a long cry from their varsity counterpart, which is like a well-oiled machine. They, too, have raw talent and potential, in addition to having the benefit of practicing and learning from their varsity peers.
