Lady Steers rack up the wins

The Magdalena Lady Steers added three wins to their record during a grueling schedule last week – two at home and one on the road, bumping them up 6 points in the state ranking. The team shows the signs of maturity expected from a team of juniors and seniors who have been playing together for 4-5 years. Communication and teamwork is strong. The Lady Steers faltered slightly during their match-up against the Wildcats last Friday, but pulled it together for a nice win.

"Our girls are beginning to find their stride," Coach Bryan Baca said. "We are working through some adversity and are on pace to make a serious run for the State championship, but much work still lays ahead of us."

The Lady Steers beat Desert Academy 3-0 on Friday, Sept. 20, and Mountainair 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 21; they followed up with a 3-0 win against Alamo Navajo on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Magdalena's schedule lightens a little, playing at 4 p.m. Friday against Estancia at home, and then has a little break until Oct. 3, when they travel to Jemez Valley.
