Lady Warriors teamwork up, still struggle for the win
The Lady Warriors played a double-header, against two different teams, Sept. 21 at home, losing both matches 0-3.
Improvement is evident in their game as the Lady Warriors volleyball team played Fort Wingate for the first time and met Hatch Valley for the second time this month. Though Socorro lost the back-to-back matches, they showed great improvement in their teamwork and hustle.
The Lady Warriors played Hatch Valley Sept. 3 in Hatch Valley, with scores of 8-25, 14-25 and 13-25. Last Saturday’s matchup at home looked like this: 20-25, 22-25, 14-25. That’s great improvement in a little over two weeks.
“This was the second time we’ve played Hatch (Valley),” coach Joni Mauldin said. “We played them much better.”
The Lady Warriors junior varsity team is faring better with their record. They have lost only one game this season.
“I’m very pleased with their hard work and commitment to the team,” Mauldin said of the JV team.
Mauldin is also pleased with the progress of the varsity team. Though they aren’t yet chalking up wins, she sees tremendous growth and improvement in their effort and skill.
The varsity team goes to Sandia Prep this Friday for a tournament. Junior varsity plays Cobre on Nov. 1.
