Lady Warriors coming back
The Lady Warriors soccer team had mercy on the the Ruidoso Warriors on Tuesday, beating them 10-0 in a mercy rule ending after the first half. This is the result of a young Socorro team playing a team equivalent in age and experience, and gives an indication of their potential future if they hold together as a cohesive team.
The Lady Warriors volleyball team is also making a comeback. They won their last two games, first 3-1 against East Mountain last Saturday during a tournament at Sandia Prep in Albuquerque, and again 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon on the road against Cobre. The ladies lost their two previous volleyball matches at the tournament, but came back, buckled down and pulled out a strong win at the end of the tournament.
"The key to this team is communication," coach Joni Mauldin said of the Lady Warriors volleyball team. "Once they start talking to each other, they start playing well together. I'm proud of their progress and achievements."
Lady Warriors soccer coach Mitch Carrejo was not available to comment on the ladies' latest win. It's their second win in a row, following a 5-0 win over Silver City on Sept. 24, and close match against Robertson the prior week.
The Lady Warriors volleyball team can be seen at home against Deming at 4 p.m. next Tuesday, and then in Laguna at 4 p.m. next Thursday.
The Lady Warriors soccer team has a reprieve until .Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. in Silver City.
