Great dental experience

A letter to the editor might not be the most appropriate place to express my views about an encounter I had with a new professional in town, but I don’t do Facebook. Last Monday my third molar, bottom right, began to get very sensitive to hot and cold. By Tuesday night, when I brought my teeth together, it felt like a wedge being driven into the nerve.
I’m way behind on preventive dental care and don’t have a regular dentist. My wife recalled hearing that a new dentist had recently joined Dr. Beers’ practice. She called Dr. Beers’ office at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Shirleen Greenwood, the receptionist, worked me in with Dr. Galen Detrik that morning.
Well, after the preliminary X-rays and some small talk, where I learned Dr. Detrik is a graduate of New Mexico Tech and returned to Socorro about three months ago, the doctor reviewed the digitalized X-rays with me and explained TWO teeth needed to be extracted. “OK, pull them both,” I agreed reluctantly.
Paul Holt, the office’s financial coordinator, came in and gave me the estimated cost.
Shortly, Dr. Detrik had numbed me up, expertly making sure I had an adequate dose and that he gave it time to take effect. Darien Torres, his assistant, started suctioning and Dr. Detrik went to work. The third molar came out relatively easily but the second did not want to give up. It took a lot of effort on his part and I was, happily, numb through it all.
Finally, I was done! After getting my instructions, I paid a little less then Paul had initially estimated and quickly headed home.
In less than 48 hours I was almost 100 percent. I am very glad Socorro has a new dentist with an outstanding dental surgical background. The whole office experience was excellent and it’s possible I will get caught up on preventive dentistry now that I have had such a positive dental experience.
