Tech hosts Sun Country Junior Tour Fall Tournament
The Sun Country Amateur Golf Association, a section of the PGA, held a Junior Tour Fall Golf Series tournament at New Mexico Tech Golf Course on Oct. 12.
Several Socorro junior golfers placed in the tournament. Mia Salome took second place in the girls 16- to 18-year-old division; Ricky Silva Jr. received second place in the scorecard playoff; Isaiah Anaya placed fifth in the tournament; and Levi Romero tied for sixth place in the tournament.
The Sun Country Amateur Golf Association was founded in 1976 and has become one of the United States Golf Association's most renowned representatives. The SCAGA provides administrative services for all amateurs playing in the geographic area of New Mexico and West Texas. Its purpose is to promote mutual trust and friendly relationships among members by encouraging and promoting successful golf operations; aiding courses and clubs through study and research in the care, maintenance and improvement of greens and fairways; developing educational programs related to the rules of golf; conducting tournaments; arranging tournament dates with minimal conflict among golf clubs and associations; providing a handicap system for members; and cooperating with other golf associations in the region.
