The Lady Warriors socked it to the Hatch Valley Bears again Oct. 17, for back-to-back wins that also secured the district championship title for the ladies. In their best win yet, the Lady Warriors took the match 7-0 in Hatch Valley, their second biggest win of the season.

Susann Mikkelson/El Defensor Chieftain: Lady Warriors’ back-to-back wins against Hatch Valley secure the district championship. The young team has improved a hundredfold since the beginning of the season.

Dominique Molina, No. 7 and the team’s only junior, continues to be the leading scorer, with 33 of the team’s 52 goals for the season — an average of 2.357 per game.

But scoring is really a team effort and spread among the team from game to game. No. 8 McKenna Gonzales and No. 3 Danielle Moore have five points each. Both are merely eighth-graders.

Sabine Fuierer, a sophomore and one of the team’s most consistent and best defenders, has four points and 11 assists. Moore also holds an 11-assist record. This is a good sign for a strong team, one that is just developing but already showing great skill and teamwork.

For their next conquest, the Lady Warriors face Ruidoso this afternoon at 4 p.m. in Ruidoso.
