MATA — James M. Mata, age 80, a resident of Belen, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013. He served his country in the United States National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ernestine Mata; brothers David Baca and Fred Mata; sister Rosita Pena; mother, Sinforosa Baca; stepfather Vivian Baca; and father Raoil Estrada.
James is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Mata; three grandchildren, Sandra Reynolds, James Mata and Marie Sedillo; and great-grandchildren Willie Lucero, Teresa Lucero, Joshua Reynolds, Gabriel Reynolds, Alexander Reynolds, Kayla Vega and Josiah Sedillo.
A viewing was held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment followed at San Acacia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Duran, Charles Reynolds, Joe Sedillo, Freddie Mata, James Mata Jr. and Damien Fertic. ROMERO — Vidal (Saavedra) Romero, 88, of Socorro, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She had been in the skilled and caring hands of Socorro Home Health-Hospice Services for several years.
Vidal was born in the coal mining town of Tokay on Sept. 29, 1925, to Jose Ignacio and Nepumusena (Gabaldon) Saavedra. She married during World War II to Fabian B. Romero, of San Pedro, on June 26, 1944, and together they had six children, Patricia D. Iley, of Los Lunas; Lilly Evitt (husband, Jim), of Polvadera; Moises Romero (wife, Diana), of Lemitar; Rosa Anna Jones, of Albuquerque; Jeanne Gacanich (husband, Larry), of Socorro; and Fabian Romero Jr., of Socorro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 43 years, Fabian; and her brothers Estevan Saavedra, Jose I. Saavedra Jr., Antonio (Tony) Saavedra and Louis Saavedra. She is survived by her children; her sisters Telesfora S. Rios, of Socorro, and Frances LaBella, of Corrales; her grandchildren Mike, Angela, Shanna, Joseph, Rebecca, Candice, Marea, DaVonna, Mileva, Mirjana, Dushan, Larry Jr., John and Amber; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vidal, along with her husband, Fabian, was a longtime business owner in Socorro. She loved her family and had many hobbies, including gardening, bird watching and sewing.  She was a lifelong learner and an excellent listener.
Her brother Louis Saavedra, former mayor of Albuquerque, on many occasions treated state dignitaries to delicious meals prepared by his sister Vidal. She was a member of San Miguel Parish in Socorro and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Together with her son Fabian Jr., Vidal participated in and hosted pilgrims of the Eucharistic Prayer Vigil for Peace for many years.
Funeral services will be held at San Miguel Parish in Socorro. The holy rosary was recited by members of the Legion of Mary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, and the  funeral Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, followed by interment at the Lemitar Cemetery. ADAMS — Johnny R. Adams passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. He was born in Mountainair on Dec. 23, 1933, to Lexie and John Quincy Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Virginia G. Adams; his son Bruce L. Adams and his  brother Roger Adams. He is survived by his children Johnny L. Adams and Brenda L. Adams; his adored grandchildren Lawton, Clinton, Jessica and Stephanie Adams; his brother Robert Adams; sisters Betty Paine and Vickie Southhall; and many nieces and nephews.
He liked people and had many friends. He loved to play pool and go to the senior center.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Adams Family Home in Socorro, 921 Allen Court. Special thanks to Gerri and Habert Hardern and Billy Goret.

TRUJILLO — Valentin D. Trujillo, of Magdalena, born Aug. 28, 1941, was called home Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. Val was the son of Margarita and Manuel Trujillo, and loving husband of Margie (Gutierrez) Trujillo. Val and Margie were married July 29, 1961, and were married for 52 years.
He was preceded in death by son Dennis Joseph Trujillo, his parents, and his brothers Macario and Tony. He is survived by children Frankie and wife, Yvette, Anthony and wife, Debby, and Chris and wife, Maria; 15 grandchildren, Tino, Frankie boy, Andres, Rebecca, Vicente, Desiree, Angel, Dominique, Conrad, Joseph, Jacob, Jadon, Julee, Christopher and Sabrina; six great-grandchildren, Valentin, Gracie, Genevieve, Jason, Gabriel and Ezekiel; siblings Barbara, Manuel, Joe, Cleo, MaryAnn and Tommy; and many other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends. He was uncle “VD” to many, coach Val to many more.
Val was a successful businessman as operator of Golf Plaza Exxon, Val’s Zia on Bridge, and Val & Sons of Rio Rancho until his retirement in 1992. Even after his retirement he continued every possible business venture he could get his hands on.
Val was an advocate for youth sports in the South Valley of Albuquerque. His legacy will live on through all the many lives he touched through his generosity, kind heart and funny jokes.
A viewing was held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena. The recitation of the holy rosary followed at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at 9 a.m. and burial followed at Magdalena Cemetery. BACA — Monico P. Baca, age 76, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Magdalena on Sept. 24, 1937, to Elfego and Demetria (Peralta) Baca. Monico grew up in Riley and later moved to Magdalena where he and his wife, Mary, raised their three children.
Monico enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from the Socorro County road department after approximately 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Gomez Baca; his parents and his sister Theresa McBride. Monico is survived by son Edward Baca and Wanda Garcia; his daughters Melissa Baca, and Yolanda Baca and Loren Oritz; his brother Juan Baca and wife, Bertha; and sisters Corine Gutierrez and husband, Jimmy, Grace Wagner and husband, Bill, Velma Wolfel and husband, Gus, Sarah Molina and husband, Ramon, Mable Munoz, Rita Monte and husband, Daniel, Louella Rael and husband, Ricky, and Rose Aragon, as well as grandchildren Gabriel, Alfonso, Adam and Roxanne Sanchez; Jeffery, Adrianna, Krystal, Kyle, Javan and Gabrielle Baca; and great-grandchildren Monique and Brooklyn Baca; Chamille Ross; Melo McCain and Antonio Monico Guerrero.
Rosary will be recited Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. at the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena, with Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 9 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as celebrant. ROBERTS — Michael A. Roberts, 26, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born in Albuquerque on March 16, 1987, to Richard and Bernadette (Sedillo) Roberts. He was a lifelong resident of Socorro and, even though he left us way too soon, he touched many people’s lives.
Michael loved to ride his bike, hunt and fish. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, always going for the Eagles and the Dodgers. Michael will always be remembered for his smile and his big heart.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Atanacia Sedillo, his grandfather Jack Roberts and his auntie Linda Gray.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sherree (Torres) Roberts; his parents Bernadette “Bennie” Roberts, and Richard Roberts and his wife, Silvia; his children LeeShell and Michael Roberts Jr.; his brothers Dickie Chavez and wife, Miquela, and Joseph Valenzuela and wife, Brandi; his sisters Michelle Roberts, Amanda Tucker and husband, Aaron, and Valerie Roberts; his grandfather Ciriaco Sedillo; his grandmother Christina Roberts; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and close friends.
The holy rosary will be recited Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, followed by a communion service that will begin at 10 a.m. with Deacon Mike Ybarra officiating. Interment will take place in the Luis Lopez Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mario Jaramillo, Joseph “Scooter” Reichenbach, Danny “Drey” Macias, Rudy Lucero, Steven Molina and Tony Silva.
