BAILEY — Shirley Ruth Bailey, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Big Spring, Texas on the Dement family farm on Jan. 12, 1922, to Albert Miller and Olive Cleo (Dement) Hawk. Shirley was a long-time resident of Socorro. When she was a girl she lived in Pie Town.
She was a Rosie-the-Riveter during World War II. In 1955 she met the love of her life while she was a waitress at Shirley’s Cafe in Socorro. She was the most loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed rock collecting, gardening and horseback riding. Shirley was especially fond of raising her peacocks at the family home and loved her baby goats, Nancy and Cutie Pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Robert Hawk and Albert Miller “Jack” Hawk Jr.; her sisters, Ruby Lee Duletsky and Neva Nelle Cook Mitchell; and her beloved grandson, Kerry Stephen Hicks.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard Keith Bailey; her devoted children, Olivia Shirleen Bretz and husband, Robert E., William A.”Bill” Bailey and Charlene Coles, Theodore Charles “Ted”Bailey and wife, Judy and Elizabeth Lee Winterrowd and husband, David; her sister, Mary Luwilda Fletcher and husband, William; and many other loving family members and close friends.
Shirley was also very proud of her grandchildren, Suzanne Elizabeth Surratt and husband, Rusty, David Roy Hicks and wife, Michelle, David Mark Bailey and wife, Meg, Tisha Lanette Webb and husband, Derry, Keith Ray Bailey and wife, Jean, Tiffany Rebekah Hymel and husband, Chad, Samantha Nicole Parker and husband, Tim and Travis Andrew Winterrowd and wife, Nicole; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Socorro Church of Christ, 1001 El Camino Real, Socorro. Interment will be held in the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Bailey, Ted Bailey, David Hicks, David Bailey, Keith Bailey and Travis Winterrowd. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Shirley’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. GUTIERREZ — Christine Maria Gutierrez, 61, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013. She was born in Roswell on Jan. 1, 1952, to Edward and Martha (Romo) Savedra.
She was a resident of Lemitar since 1983. Christine loved to work in her yard where she had the most beautiful trees and flowers. She enjoyed watching movies, learning to play the guitar and driving her red Corvette. Above anything else, Christine was very strong in her faith in Yahweh and her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Crystal Laura Gutierrez, in March of 1991.
Christine is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Leroy Gutierrez; her parents; her devoted children, Billy Joe Savedra, Vanessa Marie Grain and husband, Evan, Tony Garza and Leroy C. Gutierrez and wife, Melanie; her brothers, Danny and wife, Rosanne, Larry and wife Luana, Eddie and wife Annette, Floyd and wife, Margaret and Paul and wife, Shawna; her only sister, Renee Savedra; and many other loving family members and close friends. Christine especially enjoyed her beautiful grandchildren, Elric, Camryn, Caleb, Derek, Tony Jr., Mariah, Mathew, Christopher, Garrick and Adrianna.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Daniels Family Funeral Services — Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield St, Socorro. Interment will follow at the Lemitar Cemetery.

CHAVEZ — Rafael “Henry” E. Chavez, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, with his loving wife at his side. He was born in San Antonito, N.M. on Oct. 18, 1941 to Efrain and Prudencia (Gonzales) Chavez.
Henry was a lifelong resident of Socorro County and attended Socorro High School. He was a cook in the New Mexico National Guard and continued his passion for cooking after retiring from the Guard after 24 years. Henry was employed by New Mexico Tech and retired after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David Chavez and Rudy Chavez; and his sisters, Ramona Padilla, Flora Wittner and Delfina Chavez.
Henry is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Virginia Chavez; his brothers, Sammy Chavez and wife, Shirley, Antonio Chavez, Efrain “Sonny” Chavez Jr. and wife, Irene, and Mariano Chavez and wife, Kathy; sister, Cristrella Pino; many other loving family members and close friends; and his two precious Chihuahuas, Cisco and Chiquita.
A Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services — Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield, Socorro.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at  11 a.m., again at Daniels Family Funeral Services — Socorro Chapel. Interment will follow in the Escondida cemetery. NELLANS — Judith Ann Nellans, 63, passed away peacefully on  Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in Socorro. She was born in Linton, Ind. on June 29, 1950, to Charles and Betty (Boling) Graves.
Judith grew up in Rosemont, Ill. and enjoyed riding horses when she was young. She moved to Socorro in 1995 and taught piano and flute for the past 17 years. Judith enjoyed knitting and also playing her flute. She was a woman of strong Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Graves. Judith is survived by her cousin Anne Berkeypile; mother Betty Wittington; daughter, Melissa Baca and husband, Tim; son, Eric Nellans and wife, Tina; two grandsons, Lee Nellans and Nicholas Baca; brothers, Jim Graves, Gary Graves and Donnie Graves; and her sister, Carole Beavers and husband, Jim.
