GRISWOLD — Carol Elizabeth Griswold, age 84, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at her home in Socorro.
She was born in Omaha, Neb., on April 3, 1929, to Gerald and Helen Cleffner Daley. Carol first came to New Mexico in the early 1950s when she worked at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo. It was while working at Holloman that she met her future husband, George Griswold, at a dance at what was then the New Mexico School of Mines. She was married to George from 1952 until 1970.
Carol has been a resident of Socorro for almost 60 years and was an avid golfer. She received a degree in radiology from Creighton University and worked for approximately 22 years at Socorro General Hospital. Her siblings include Jean, Jerri, Tom, George and Jack with strong ties to Arizona.
Carol is survived by her four children Cynthia Rex, George “Pat” Griswold, James Griswold and Robert Griswold, and her four grandchildren Carly, Michael, James and Tucker.
A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation of a toy may be given to a needy family this Christmas in Carol’s honor. KERBY — Alney Lee Kerby, age 88, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque after complications from congestive heart failure. He was born in Ranger, Texas, on Nov. 12, 1925, to Alney B. and Bonnie Anisworth Kerby.
Al was a Marine rifleman and truck driver and served in World War II in the Pacific. He saw action at Guadalcanal and Peleliu. He also served at the U.S. Embassy in Peking, China, before returning to New Mexico and his wife, Zanola, and son Richard.
He learned cabinet making in Socorro and went from there to general carpentry. He later went to work at White Sands Missile Range and New Mexico Tech where he supervised crews who worked at the Terra Project.
Al’s main hobby was deer hunting and ammunition reloading. Much to his family’s surprise, he was a square dancing enthusiast and went on to call at square dances at several places in New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zanola; his parents; his older brother Ray and younger brother Billy. Al is survived by sons Richard Kerby and family of Woodinville, Wash., and Raymond Kerby and family of Prenton, Fla.; sister Etta Pearl Snyder, of Canyon City, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews in eastern New Mexico.

GUERRERO — Raul R. Guerrero, age 66, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at his home in Socorro surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico, on March 12, 1947, to Jose and Dolores Ramos Guerrero.
Raul was a resident of Socorro for the past 49 years and he was the foreman for the Indian Hills farm in San Acacia. Raul’s passion in life was music. He sang with many bands over the years and at one time was the lead singer for Mariachi National. He considered himself the mariachi for everyone. Raul enjoyed the horse races, his scratchers and his trips to the casino.
He was preceded in death by his sister Maria C. Enciso and his parents. Raul is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Jaramillo Guerrero; sons Carlos Guerrero, Pedro Guerrero and Raul Guerrero Jr.; grandchildren Maria M. Guerrero, Jamie Guerrero, Samantha Guerrero, Elena Guerrero and Pedro Guerrero Jr.; brothers Oscar Guerrero, Felix Guerrero and wife, Grace, and Antonio Guerrero and wife, Kathy; and sisters Amada Silva, Esperanza Romero and husband, Billy, Eustolia Rank, and Maria E. Lopez and husband, Leroy.
Rosary was recited Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at 9 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church with Father Andrew Pavlak as celebrant. Burial was at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers were Manuel Romero, Felix Guerrero Jr., Valente Silva, Antonio Guerrero Jr., Mauro Portillo and Jimmy Lucero.
