Lady Warriors selected to all-district team
Seniors Maria Alderete, Tamera Chavez and Ashley Pyke were selected to the 3A all-district team earlier this month, their final honor for Lady Warriors volleyball.
“I was very pleased that they (the coaches) took my recommendation for these three young ladies!” Coach Joni Mauldin said. “They were all outstanding leaders on and off the court, and their stats proved how hard they worked throughout the season.”
Pyke led the team with by far the most attacks. She had 251 kills, out of 583 attempts, for a 43 percent kill rate. She held twice the number of blocks of any of her teammates, with 46 blocks for the season. Pyke is also a demonstrated leader in recieving, serving and digs, showing all-around skill both offensively and defensively.
Chavez was the team’s top serve reciever with 133 successful recieves this season, and was a leader in digs. She was an overall team leader, demonstrating good communications and a positive attitude.
Alderete served as the team’s captain for most matches, and was a leader in serves and in digs for the team, with 33 serves for the season and 187 successful digs, or about 10 per match.
