WATTS — Nelson Eddie Watts, 73, of Grove, Okla., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 5, 2013. He was born on April 6, 1940, to Elvis and Edna Watts in Mountainair. He graduated from Mountainair High School in 1959. He met Judy Edgington in Socorro where both of them were working at Eagle Picher. They fell in love and were married Sept. 10, 1965.
Nelson remained a loyal employee of Eagle Picher for 22 years in Socorro before he was transferred in August 1999 to Grove, Okla., accompanied by Judy and their son. His daughters soon followed. Although he retired in 2012, he always kept busy and never was happy being idle. He loved his old cars and driving back roads, but he loved his family the most and loved spending time with them. His tenderness to them was precious and will be greatly missed.
Nelson leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years; his daughter, Jana Capps and her husband, Joseph Capps, his daughter, Amy Dickert, and his son, Stacey Watts, all of Grove.; one sister, Betty Davis and husband Don Davis of Albuquerque; many nieces and nephews; and his grandsons Darrin Ray Hobbs of San Antonio and Justin Lee Reed of Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Donald, Delbert, Kenneth and Gale Watts.

TORRES — Josephine Torres, 81, a lifelong resident of Socorro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013.
She was born in Socorro on March 19, 1932, to Juan B. and Teresita (Trujillo) Gonzales. Josephine grew up in Socorro and graduated from Socorro High School. She married Felix C. Torres not long after she graduated and they raised six children and four step-children. Josephine and Felix managed the Florida Mobile Home Park for many years and she worked as a sales clerk at Newberrys from 1994-1998. She was a great cook and loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Felix who passed away in 1987; her step-daughter, Frances Lopez; her brothers, Johnny Gonzales and Frank Gonzales; and her sisters, Ramona Trujillo, Irene Garcia, Gertrude Long and Concha Gianera.
Josephine is survived by her devoted children, Della Vega and husband, Lencho, Theresa Del Curto and husband, Pete, Sandra Aerts and husband, Robert, Christopher Torres, Thomas Torres and wife, Debbie and Douglas Torres and wife, Gloria; her step-children, Felix Torres Jr. and wife, Margaret, Jerry Torres and wife, Cindy, Alfred Torres and wife, Loudres; her sisters, Linda Griego and Priscilla Saavedra; her brother, Max Gonzales; her loving grandchildren, Joey Vega and wife, Loretta, Delilah Walsh and husband, Dennis, Ryan Del Curto, Scott Del Curto, Cynthia Aerts, Jasmine Torres, Jared Torres and wife, Farl, Christopher Torres Jr., David Torres and wife, Merlinda, Jessica Torres and Patrick Torres. She will also be greatly missed by her many great-grandchildren and her loving and devoted caregiver, Helen Dennis.
The Holy Rosary was recited on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro followed by the Mass of Resurrection which was celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as celebrant.
Interment is at the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were be Lencho Vega, Peter Del Curto, Robert Aerts, Ryan Del Curto, Scott Del Curto and Joey Vega. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Torres, Tommy Torres, Douglas Torres, Felix Torres, Alfred Torres and Jerry Torres.

ANDERSON — Geraldine Essig Anderson, at the age of 96, was taken to her heavenly home on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. She was a longtime member of Netherwood Church of Christ.
She is survived by her grandsons, Ted Mascarenas, Tim Mascarenas, Terry Mascarenas, Steve Rosas and Tommy Mascarenas; granddaughters, Becky Skornia, Christina Mascarenas and Bobbi Gonzales; sons-in-law, Robert Mascarenas and Leo Rosas; her 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her dedicated husband of 28 years, Ed Anderson; her loving daughters, Jerry Diana Mascarenas and Charlene Rosas; parents, Ed W. and Hettie Essig; and sister, Edythe Fisher.
Geraldine was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. Her love for her Heavenly Father was evident in words that she spoke to everyone. Geraldine had great pride in her vegetable garden, especially her tomatoes. She was known by all as “Juggie.” She came to New Mexico in 1948 with her husband and two young daughters. She lived several years in Socorro and in Albuquerque, Juggie resided at Albuquerque Rehabilitation Center in the last years of her life.
We, as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and friends lay her to rest in the Lord’s arms.

MONTOYA — David J. Montoya, age 72, a 16-year resident of Bullhead City, Ariz. passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013. He was born June 25, 1941, in Socorro.
David worked as an Aircraft Inspector for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft which became Boeing, where he retired after more than 30 years. He then moved to Bullhead City, Ariz. David was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. He loved boating and fishing on the Colorado River, and also enjoyed camping.
David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen Montoya; sons, David Ray (Yvette) Montoya of Bullhead City, Ariz.;, and LeRoy Montoya of Florence, Ariz.; daughter, Elizabeth (Edgar) Ramirez of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, two great- grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Lopez, Refugia Romero and Marcella Garcia, all of Socorro.
David was proceeded in death by his parents, Frank and Avelina Montoya; brother, Arthur Montoya; sisters, Rose Lopez, Domie Montoya, Barbara Lysen and Frances Apodaca. A Rosary was held followed by Mass on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Bullhead, Ariz. Father Peter Dobrowski was the officiate. Burial has taken place in Mohave, Ariz.
GUTIERREZ — Barbara Gutierrez passed peacefully from this life the morning of Dec. 3 after a gradual decline in health due to congestive heart failure. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family during the last moments of her life. Barbara was born in Socorro on Sept, 2, 1939, to Lucas and Irene Garcia (Gonzales).
Barbara is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joe L., and her children Deborah of Oak Park, Calif., James and his wife Cecilia of Albuquerque, Valerie and partner Rochelle of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jo Lynn of Farmington; eight grandchildren, Amanda Dotson, Genevieve Snyder, Nicholas West, Brenna, Roman, Aaron, Ryan and Caitlyn Gutierrez and four great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her sister Jeanette Jaramillo and her husband Danny of Los Lunas; many aunts; uncles; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joe Richard and Jerry, and her sister Lucy.
Barbara grew up in the Florída area of Socorro with all of her “aunties” and cousins. She graduated from Socorro High School in 1957. After high school she joined the U.S. Marines. Later in life, Barbara worked for New Mexico Tech in the financial aid office and for the Bureau of Land Management’s Socorro Field Office where she retired in 1999. She enjoyed being a part of the Socorro Women’s Golf Association.

SILVA – Jose A. Silva, a Belen resident, died Dec. 3, from medical complications at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Aragon; his brother, Julio Silva, and nephew, Daniel Mendoza.
Jose is survived by his children, Marti Silva and her husband, Cory Lopez; Jose A. Silva Jr.; Anita Garcia and her husband Adolfo Garcia — all from Belen — and son, Leroy Chavez, from Socorro; siblings, sisters Mary Mendoza and Loretta Toliver and brother Louie Aragon and his wife Francis; grandchildren, Jacqueline Silva, Brandon Montiel, Esteban Contreras, Francisco Contreras and Josephina Estrella Silva, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial Rosary will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Romero Funeral Home. Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a later date.
