SANTILLANES — Josephine M. Santillanes, our “Christmas Angel,” 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in White Oaks, N.M. on Jan. 11, 1930 to Gregorio and Sofia (Mes) Montoya.
Josie and her former husband, Joe began their family in Alameda, N.M. before moving to Socorro in 1962 where they established a successful farm and ranching business while raising their five children. Josie was a loving wife, mother, and home maker. She was a very talented seamstress and was often asked to make wedding dresses,  bridesmaid dresses and sequined outfits for rodeo queens. Josie was always making her children special outfits, such as heirloom quality wedding gowns for her daughters. She was very active in her community and in the Catholic Church. Josie was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Legion of Mary, and taught religious education. Josie was also a foster grandparent for many years as well as meal site manager at the Socorro Senior Center. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She always had a way to make everyone so comfortable and feel so loved. Christmas, was a very special time for Josie. Every holiday season her home was filled with wonderful aromas of posole, rellenos, tamales, biscochitos, empanadas and many other dishes. She loved the colorful holiday decorations and lights. Every season Josie joined her family in lighting the Luminarias.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Santiago, Melisandro, and Nazareno; her sister, Jane; and her friend and father of her children, Joe.
Josie is survived by her only sister, “Dobbie” Thurman; her devoted children, Irene Schneider and husband, David, Mary Jo Santillanes, Sophie Chavez and husband, Frank, Mona Torres and husband, Max, and Jay Santillanes and wife, Matejka.
Josie will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Andre and wife, Stephanie, Johnny and wife, Trisha, Randy and wife, Patty, Frankie, Christie, Max III and wife, Lydia, Melynda and husband, Matthew, Kimberly and husband, John and Joseph; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at 7 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro.
The Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at 9 a.m. also at San Miguel Catholic Church with Father Andrew Pavlak as celebrant. Internment will take place in the  San Miguel Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Andre Tafoya, Johnny Joe Mann, Frankie Chavez, Randy Mann, Max Torres III and Joseph Santillanes. Honorary pallbearers are Christie Chavez, Melynda Monte and Kimberly Taylor.

CASTILLO — Frank  S. Castillo, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Socorro on Nov. 16, 1931 to Inacio and Dolores (Sedillo) Castillo.
He was a lifelong resident of Socorro. He was a very hard working man and jack of all trades. He enjoyed ranching, riding horses, making horse whips and wicker baskets.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Frank  is survived by his loving daughter, Dolores Hensley and husband, Robert Serna; his devoted sons, Lorenzo M., Steven D., Antonio T., and Johnny F. Castillo; his step-sons, Fred Montoya and wife, Alicia and Joe Louis Montoya and wife, Julie. Frank also enjoyed his grandchildren, Marlena Castillo and husband, Davante, Matthew Lopez, Francisco “Kiko” Castillo, A.J. Castillo, Isaac Castillo, Nikiah Castillo, and many others; and also great-grandchildren. A memorial service with the Rosary was held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Daniels Family Funeral Services, 309 Garfield, Socorro, NM 87801.

LOGSDON — Gordon  H. Logsdon, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on Nov. 24, 1940, to Vonder and Ruth (Sites) Logsdon. Gordon grew up in New York.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from December of 1962 until September of 1965. He was a very accomplished salesman and was self-employed for much of his career. Before moving to Datil, Gordon and his wife Jane resided in Lemitar for about 9 years. He loved the outdoors and Datil was a perfect fit, with the outdoors in his backyard. Gordon had many hobbies, such as mining and he enjoyed to just simply tinker with things. He was very innovative. Above everything else, Gordon was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and he was always willing to help anybody in need. Gordon’s smile will be forever remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clifford Logsdon.
Gordon  is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jane (Gerrity) Logsdon; his son, Timothy Logsdon and wife, Eileen; his grandchildren, Patrick and Emily; his brothers, David Logsdon and wife, Shirley and Jeff Logsdon and wife, Cindy; and many other loving family members and close friends.
