Socorro Electric Co-op still at odds, new board elected
The annual meeting of the Socorro Electric Cooperative was held on June 8 after being continued by a vote at the end of the May 15 annual meeting. It was announced there were 142 people who registered. People present who had previously sent in mail-in ballots were not allowed to register in person for the meeting because they had not been at the previous one. There were 189 mail-in ballots submitted at the original meeting, so only 97 in-person members were actually needed to fill the requirements for a quorum, if the mail-in ballots are allowed to count. There are 9,528 members of the co-op and 286 are needed for a quorum. A resolution still has not been made as to whether the items discussed or passed at either of those meetings will be considered valid or not.
Unofficially Melissa Amaro would have won the District III co-op election with a total of 140 votes; Leroy Anaya received a total of 77 votes; Prescilla Mauldin received a total of 27 votes; and Donald Wolberg received a total of six votes. The co-op board certified the District III vote for Amaro at its meeting on Nov. 21. The co-op board will now be made up of five members, as the full reform number kicked in on Jan. 1.
