MCKINLEY — William McKinley, age 56, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in Quemado. He was born in Belen on June 27, 1957, to Ray and Margie (Magee) McKinley. William was a lifelong resident of Pie Town and worked for the Catron County Road Dept. for 17 years. He enjoyed hunting and worked on several ranches in Catron County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Johnny McKinley and Tommy Lee McKinley; and his sisters, Deannie Johnson and Exlee Theiss.
William is survived by brother, Bobby McKinley and wife, Coy and Frankie McKinley and wife, Susie; sister, Lola McWhorter; his sister-in-law, Judy McKinley; and many nieces and nephews.

ROY — Edward M. Roy, age 85, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, in Albuquerque. He was born in Imlay City, Mich. on Feb. 27, 1928, to Henry and Gertrude Nolen Roy. Edward served in the Merchant Marines before joining the Marines. He worked at the Naval Air Warfare Center at China Lakes, Calif. where he retired after 39 years of service. He moved to Socorro in 1984 and went to work for New Mexico Tech from 1986 to 1998. He was instrumental in the development of several energetic materials.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Lyle Spencer; brothers, Henry Roy, Ervin Roy, and William Roy; sister, Roseanna.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Rochelle Fulton; son, Danny Roy; grandchildren, Matthew Fulton and wife, Holly, Angela Fulton and Andrew Fulton and wife, Haley; great-grandchildren, Bryant and Harper Fulton; brother, John Roy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Lazaro Acevedo and his wife, Patsy.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Daniels Family Funeral Services-Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield, Socorro.
Interment to follow at the Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Roy, Matthew Fulton, Andrew Fulton, Lazaro Acevedo Jr., Isaiah Acevedo and Adrian Morris.

HUGHES — Brenard  C. “Pete” Hughes, 89, passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2013, at his home in San Acacia. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Neb. on May 22, 1924, to John Dorman and Amanda Elizabeth (Royer) Hughes.
Pete was a resident of San Acacia for about 25 years. He proudly served with the United States Navy from 1943-1945. He worked and retired after 25 years with the NM Game and Fish Department. Pete was a very hard working man and would waste no time.
The daylight hours were for being productive and that he was, a jack of all trades around the family home. He loved to work, hunt with his hounds, and farm. Pete started the first mule races in Socorro back in the late 60’s. He was a strong man and left behind many values for his family to carry on.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother; his wife, Jean (Martin) Hughes in 1975; his second wife, Alicia (Gutierrez) Hughes in 2010; and his daughter, Debbie Hughes.
Brenard  is survived by his sons, Daniel Hughes and wife, Esther; and Shawn  Hughes and friend, Dolly Anaya; his daughter, Rebecca Bush; his brother, Howard; and his sister, Rhonda. Granddad Pete will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

QUINN — Ronald “Ronnie” Harold Quinn, 47, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 in El Paso, Texas. He was born in Deming on Feb. 26, 1966, to Harold and Carmen Rosas Quinn.
Ronnie’s family moved to Socorro in 1969 where his parents bought the Brownbilt store and owned it for many years. He graduated from Socorro High School in 1984 and attended college in California and New Mexico. Ronnie’s love for New Mexico and his roots to his family and friends brought him back to Socorro in 1991.
While living in Socorro, he worked for National Radio Astronomy Observatory and White Sands Missile Range which eventually led him to his current profession as a Technology Specialist. He enjoyed golfing, jogging, mountain biking and riding his motorcycle. Ronnie loved his family and his two dogs, Trevy and Tucker. He also enjoyed his frequent trips to California where a lot of his mother’s family lives. Ronnie was a very caring person and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Ronnie is survived by his parents; his three children, Jordan, Devin, and Arnette and their mother, Cindy; his brother, Richard and wife, Maria and their children, Catalina, Dominique and Matthew.

BROWER — Kay Robert Brower, 85, longtime resident of Socorro, died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, after battling COPD for many years. He was born in Altus, Okla. on June 7, 1928.
He spent most of his childhood in Hutchinson, Kan. In 1945 he won a Pepsi-Cola Scholarship and enrolled at MIT. In 1947 he met Elise Edfors, a student at Simmons College, whom he married in 1948.
They had two daughters, Karen Brower Darnall, born in 1951, and Candace Brower, born in 1953. In 1956 the Brower family moved to Socorro, where Kay served as a chemistry professor at New Mexico Tech for 40 years. Kay was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Virginia Brower, and his three siblings, Judy Ward, Mary Lou Saloga, and Philip Brower.
He is survived by his wife and daughters, as well as three grandchildren, Natasha Darnall, Nicole Scurrah and Matthew Wood, and four great-grandchildren.

CODDINGTON — Mildred “Millie” Coddington (Goret), beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was born, July 31, 1940, and left to be with her Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Jan. 2, 2014.
She is leaving behind her beloved grandson Dustin Baca; her daughter Debbie Pace; her grandchildren Ben and Shelby Pace; her brother Emile Goret; sister Louise Nugent; and her husband Rick Coddington.
Millie was preceded in passing by her parents, Lemuel and Virginia Goret and her son, Michael Pace.
A memorial service will be conducted for her Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Family Christian Center 1016 Fowler St. (Hwy 60 & Fowler) here in Socorro.

PADILLA — Aggie Padilla, age 70, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home in Socorro surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Socorro on March 23, 1943, to Felipe and Flora Montano Jojola.
Aggie was a woman of strong faith. She loved her family and was always willing to help someone when they needed help. She was a hard worker and she worked at Eagle Pitcher in Socorro for 16 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesus Padilla; son, Daniel Padilla; sister, Rufina Flores; and brother, Santiago Jojola.
Aggie is survived by daughters, Melissa Pino and Louisa Barnett; brothers, Mike Jojola and wife, Mary and Arthur Jojola and wife, Grace; sisters, Rose Baca, Ida Baca and husband, Richard, Betty Valles and husband, Jerry; sister-in-law, Bea Jojola; her grandsons, Michael Barnett and David Jesus Pino; and her four pet dogs.
Rosary to be recited on Tuesday, Jan, 7, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro with the celebration of the Mass of Resurrection to follow at 11 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Burial will take place at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery following services.
Pallbearers will be Mike Jojola, Michael Barnett, Mike Jojola Jr., Jose Flores Jr., Joe Flores and Jerry Valles. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Jojola, Steve Jojola, Twinkle Zamora, Annabelle Gonzales, Albert Flores and Grace Jojola.

SLOAN — Kaerl Beth Sloan (Hefner) passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2013, surrounded by loved ones.
Kaerl was born March 25, 1949 in Socorro to Lawrence and Marjorie Hefner. She graduated from the University of New Mexico and taught in the New Mexico public school system until her retirement in 2012. Kaerl’s sharp sense of humor and smiling face will be missed by many people. Kaerl was loyal to her friends and could always be counted on if you needed her help. She is survived by two sons, Michael Sloan and Thomas Sloan; and two brothers Chris Hefner and Michael Hefner. A service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Episcopal church in Socorro at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
