Friday accident takes life
El Defensor Chieftain Report
A San Antonio man, Emilio Pargas, 88, is dead as the result of a two vehicle accident on Interstate 25 just south of San Antonio.
According to New Mexico State Police Captain Jason Green, on Jan. 17, at approximately 4:50 p.m. a State Police officer responded to a report of a crash at milepost 139.
The investigation revealed that a 2005 gold Ford Taurus driven by Pargas was northbound in the left lane of northbound Interstate 25 traveling at a very slow speed. For unknown reasons it drifted into the right lane and was rear ended by a blue 2001 Chevrolet pickup driven by Mariah Narro, 27, of Albuquerque.
“The Ford Taurus received extensive damage to the rear end and came to rest in the median,” Green said. “Mr. Pargas was taken to Socorro General Hospital and was pronounced deceased at 5:50 p.m.”
Narro was also transferred to Socorro General Hospital where she was treated and released.
Green said the actual cause of the accident is unknown, but “alcohol does not seem to be a factor.”
“Charges are pending at this time, until investigation is complete,” he said.
