SHS Golf Coach recognized as National Coach of the Year
Margaret Stanley has been selected as National Coach of the Year for her leadership in coaching the Socorro High School girls golf team. Stanley is one of 21 high school coaches from across the country selected by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association to be honored as a 2013 National Coach of the Year.
“I am so very honored to win the National Coach of the Year from the National Federation of High Schools,” Coach Stanley said in an email message. “I could not have done this without the awesome players that I have had the pleasure of coaching through the years (luv ya!).”
The NFHS, which has been recognizing coaches through an awards program since 1982, honors coaches in the top 10 girls sports and top 10 boys sports (by participation numbers), and in one “other” sport that is not included in the top 10 listings. The NFHS also recognizes a Spirit coach as a separate award category. Winners of NFHS awards must be active coaches during the year for which they receive their award. This year’s awards recognize coaches for the 2012-13 school year.
Stanley was nominated by New Mexico High School Coaches’ Association’s Thomas Malbry. Stanley was the only New Mexico coach to receive this honor.
She is also a finalist for an award through the National Federation of High School Coaches, for the second time.
