Rodeo at the fairgrounds set for this weekend
The New Mexico Rodeo Association Membership Drive Rodeo will be held this Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, at the Socorro County Fairgrounds.
Laura Haines. NMRA Barrel Racing Director, said the rodeo will feature the eight standard events: calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, breakaway and the "ever popular" bull riding.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Members of the Magdalena FFA will be running the consession as a fundraiser.
There will be a separate rodeo each day. Slack events start at 10 a.m. both days; performances begin at 2:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
"The economy has affected rodeo across the board, so with the drive, we're trying to get members to rejoin and join as a family, because it is a family-oriented association," she said. "With this rodeo, we hope to bring more awareness of the new rodeo facility the city is building."
Haines said that with the city's new rodeo facility, "we hope to keep it busy every weekend, whether it be a full-fledged rodeo or even just team roping."
