UPCOMING

Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Troop 10488, is hosting an enchilada dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Highway 60 to raise money for any educational trip to New York City. The cost will be $5 per plate.

Girls Scout from Troop 10502 are hosting a donation dance drive at 6 p.m. April 9 in the gazebo on the plaza. Twelve girls, ages five through eight, will “shake their booties to earn their dance badges and help our community through philanthropy.” The scouts are asking that guests bring canned goods, gently used clothing or pet supplies — including leashes, litter boxes, collars and pet food. The donations will be delivered to Animal Protection Association of Socorro, Puerto Seguro and the Socorro Food Bank. For more information, call 5050-710-7204.

Astronomy with Binoculars and Spotting Scopes will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 5 at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. If you don’t have a telescope, but would like to see more objects in the night sky, try a simple pair of binoculars or a spotting scope. Bring your own equipment or borrow from the Friends of the Bosque in this hands-on workshop. After learning a few tips to improve your observing technique, try out your skills on the Spring Observing List — look for a planet, double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. Amateur astronomers will be on hand to assist. Prizes will be awarded to outstanding beginner, intermediate and advanced observers. The event is geared toward ages 10 and above. Reservations are required and space is limited. For more information, or to sign up, call 575-835-1828.
