Lady Warriors snag another tournament win
Wind gusts were up to forty-five mile per hour.
Greens were fast.
Pin placements were tricky.
Despite not having the best conditions to play in, the Socorro High School Lady Warriors golf team took the Great 8 tournament in Ruidoso, N.M., last Friday, March 28.
Additionally, the girls played in a field of 4A and 5A schools with thirty-eight players.
Shania Berger and Mia Salome tied at 77 for individual medalist, shooting five over par. Chynna Pearson shot 94, getting her first individual leg for state. Aubry Anaya shot 102, and Teresa Lucero shot 104. The team score was 350; the girls beat the field by 28 shots.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Lady Warriors played at the Dona Ana Invitational tournament where they also won the 3A invite and placed third overall.
Berger, who shot one under par at the NMSU course, won the individual medalist. She also shot an 84 at the Red Hawk course, where the conditions “were just awful” according to Coach Margaret Stanley.
Salome placed second overall shooting 79-83. Pearson shot 102-110, Anaya shot 97-100 and Lucero shot 105-105. The team score was 349-372.
“It was a tough day but it also gave the girls incentive to work harder on their game”, coach Stanley said.
The Lady Warriors’ next tournament will be held again in Ruidoso on April 14 and 15.
