Homeowners wanting wood chips for gardening projects are invited to stop by for a free permit available at the State Forestry Office on Highway 60 behind the Ark of Socorro Veterinary Clinic between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
The Masonic Lodge, 912 Leroy Place, will host a breakast from 7 to 11 a.m. May 10. Tickets are $6, and proceeds benefit charities, scholarships and other activities. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee.
Chihuahua Bible Chapel in Veguita will host a Celebration of Life Spring Tea 1 p.m. this Saturday, May 3. The event will include a speaker, prizes, games and refreshments. Parkview Elementary School’s annual talent show takes place Friday, May 2. A school performance is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the family performance is at 6 p.m. Parents can also sign up for a spring portrait session with Webb Photography from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Tienda de Segunda Thrifty, 400 Spring St., accepts donations of furniture, clothing, kitchen appliances and more. Thrifty cannot accept broken or dirty furniture, and has no facilities to wash clothing so donations need to be clean. All workers are volunteers, and sales revenues are donated to senior programs in Socorro County. The store is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
